ALL TALK: An 8-hour open dialogue about playwriting

Centre for Dramaturgy and Curation

Event Date:
16 November 2019

For one day between 9am and 5pm all questions are on the table, in a public conversation that anyone can attend and participate in. Commit to the full 8 hours or come and go as you please.

No keynotes, no experts, no agenda – just one very long chat in a room of our peers about where we’re at, where we’re headed, and how we might build a stronger playwriting culture.  Step in and speak, or sit back and listen – it's up to you.

The event is CDC’s response to the current crises in the playwriting sector, and attempt to break through the brevity and formality of your classic industry panel. With the collapse of PWA there’s a major absence of independent playwright support and uncertainty in the industry about what the future of Australian playwriting might be.

With few spaces to gather, get organised, and talk in depth as a sector, there’s a sense that the conversations and decisions are all happening in the halls of power and behind closed doors. What happens if we open the dialogue right out? And stay in the conversation?

This free, self-funded event is being organised by Mark Pritchard and Arie Rain Glorie. Framed in the context of the Centre for Dramaturgy and Curation, the conversation itself becomes research, as we air the desires, concerns, frustrations and flavours of the current zeitgeist.

The entire 8 hours will be audio-recorded, transcribed and edited into one extended record of the conversation that was had.
