Dr. Shih-Wen Sue Chen is Senior Lecturer in Writing and Literature at Deakin University. She received her PhD in Literature, Screen and Theatre Studies from the Australian National University. Her research focuses on British and Chinese children's literature and culture from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Sue will share the fascinating story of how tales about Australia featured in Chinese children’s books in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She will explore how Australia was depicted to children in magazines and books published in the late Qing and early Republican era; and how texts and cultures travelled between Britain, America and China during a period of uncertainty and political unrest in Chinese history.
