Writing A Thriller

Kill Your Darlings

Event Date:
16 November 2019
Author / Presenters:
J.P. Pomare

Join bestselling author J.P. Pomare in this unique writing course all about crafting an unputdownable fiction thriller.

Whether you want to write about a court case, a tense domestic environment or a rural crimeframing your story as a thriller will keep the narrative tight and readers turning the page. Thrillers still require the other elements of great fiction – complex characters, snappy dialogue and well crafted prose – but writers must have a focus on plot and structure to keep readers engaged.

Through a series of writing exercises and insights into the genre, this workshop will teach you how to complete and redraft a thriller manuscript with an eye for publication. Using examples from bestsellers in the genre, we will take a forensic view of structural elements (including POV, setting, and narrative structure) as well as plot to examine how these elements work together to set up big twists and keep the reader hooked until the last page.
