Writing Animals

Writers Victoria

Event Date: 26 November 2023 10:00 AM
Author / Presenters: [email protected]

Join Eliza Henry-Jones at her Silvan flower farm on unceded Wurundjeri land, where you’ll wander the orchards and patches and spend time with horses, dogs and chickens. In this hands-on workshop we’ll be considering what it means to write about animals. How can we write about animals powerfully and effectively? What is it about animals that inspire us? We’ll consider existing works of fiction that portray animals and discuss how to get a new story started, as well as ways to approach animals in fiction (and the real world!) as a writer. You will be given time to write during the workshop and receive feedback on the day.

Note: workshop will be held in the barn of a working micro flower-farm in Silvan, Victoria. There is hay, animal dander and beehives on the property. This workshop will involve interacting with horses and there will be a dog loose in the workshop space
