Liam Pieper and Josephine Rowe
The Wheeler Centre
Two prolific Australian writers have recently published new works of fiction. Here Until August is Josephine Rowe’s collection of short stories; Liam Pieper’s latest novel is Sweetness and Light.
Rowe and Pieper have shared roots – in Melbourne’s writing community, and as Voiceworks editorial committee alumni. In recent years, both have enjoyed successful, critically-celebrated careers as authors. Rowe’s work has been longlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award and selected as a New York Times Editors’ Choice; her essays and stories have been published widely. Pieper’s memoir was shortlisted for the National Biography Award and the Ned Kelly Best True Crime award, and his debut novel received the Christina Stead Fiction Award.
Their latest books separately explore disquiet and uncertainty, the intoxicating effect of new surroundings, and characters suspended between choice and fate. In conversation for Double Booked Club, join Josephine Rowe and Liam Pieper for a chat about their recent books, their backlist titles, and the processes of writing, reading and storycraft.
