Performance Writing and Improvisation Masterclass

“It is critical to allow the written text to inhabit the writer” – Ranters Theatre This masterclass focuses on performance writing for theatre. It will guide you through the process of developing new performance work using techniques that allow you to focus on physical action and become emotionally connected with what you ‘speak’ from the point of view of character author. There will be two main ways of generating dialogues:

- Texts written in isolation

- Texts devised using the basic tools of physical improvisation.

- Join the critically-acclaimed Ranters Theatre and take your performance writing to the next level.

Dates: Saturdays, 10am – 1pm // Sundays, 11am – 2pm Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 April · Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 April · Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 May · Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 May

Enquire: [email protected]

Participation is open to mid-career and emerging artists. Please note participants will be required to provide a biography at the time of booking.

Raimondo Cortese graduated from the VCA School of Drama in 1993 and is a founding member of Ranters Theatre. Raimondo was the Artistic Director of Ranters from 1994 to 2000. He has written over forty plays, as well as fiction, film, and radio and runs the Master of Writing for Performance course at VCA, Melbourne University.

Ranters Theatre creates innovative and thought provoking theatre, that is pared-back, raw, and immediate, that garners critical acclaim, both locally and overseas. Ranters is one of only a few companies worldwide that works in a minimalist, non-representational style, creating finely crafted work through rigorous rehearsal processes.
