What began as a single weekend of events has grown into a rich\, year-round program that engages our community in every season. \nEach year\, the Queenscliffe Literary Festival delivers: \n\nA Schools Program that reaches over 500 young people across every childcare\, kindergarten and primary school in the Borough of Queenscliffe\, connecting kids with authors and poets who bring stories to life\nPop-up events that take literature out into the community throughout the year\nThe Penned Micro-Fiction Writing Competition\, nurturing short-form storytelling from all across the country\nA Program Launch that kicks off in style and engages local businesses\, organisations\, and partners\nA full two-weekend festival in October\, featuring award-winning Australian authors\, thinkers and performers in sessions that spark conversation and delight audiences of all ages\n\nWe believe that great literature shouldn’t be reserved for big cities. Stories have the power to build empathy\, spark curiosity\, and bring a community together\, and that’s exactly what we do\, in one of Victoria’s most beloved coastal towns. In Queenscliffe\, we are proud to be one of the municipality’s premier cultural events. \nWe are a volunteer-run\, not-for-profit festival\, and every year we grow\, reaching more readers\, students\, and community members\, to share more stories and ideas that\, in an increasingly disconnected and fragile world\, need to be told.

SUMMARY:Online Feedback: Picture Books
DESCRIPTION:This online feedback clinic is an opportunity to work on your current picture book project or embark on a new one in a supportive group environment with guidance from a professional editor and picture book author Elizabeth Cowell. \nOver the course of eight weeks\, you will submit your work four times (up to a maximum of 850 words each time) and receive individual feedback from Elizabeth and fellow group members. The sessions are designed to help you build on your strengths and encourage you as you edit\, refine\, and polish your manuscript. \nThe feedback will be tailored to each submission\, focusing on areas such as story\, character\, voice\, point of view\, structure\, pace\, language and expression. \nBetween submission rounds\, Elizabeth will recommend picture books and online articles to inform\, interest and inspire you. \nPlease note that this is a feedback-based course. There is no face-to-face component. \nSubmissions due on Tuesdays 29 September\, 13 October\, 27 October and 10 November by 11.59pm \nFeedback due on Fridays 9 October\, 23 October\, 6 November and 20 November by 10am \nOur Online Feedback clinics are asynchronous\, with no face-to-face meetings\, allowing you to engage with the content at the times of day and week that suit your schedule. She has also written several children’s picture books\, including the bestselling All About Mermaids\, under the name Izzy Quinn. Her books have been published in Australia\, the US and Canada\, and in translation in France\, Italy and Greece.

DESCRIPTION:170 years ago\, on 11 February 1856\, State Library Victoria opened its doors to the public\, designed to lead a new cultural era. With Sir Redmond Barry as President of the Trustees and Augustus Tulk as Chief Librarian\, the Library grew its selection of books from around the globe aspiring to replicate the great libraries of Europe. Open to all\, it was conceived as an emporium of knowledge for all\, regardless of class or status.    \nOver the centuries the Library has evolved to be one of the most visited libraries in the world with a collection of more than 4.5 million items. It offers an extraordinary range of services for Victorians and other researchers around the globe.  \nIn this Symposium you will hear experts talk about the Library’s history\, its architecture and collections. You will hear stories of the people who have contributed to creating an internationally recognised powerhouse of knowledge and engagement with the community.  \nThroughout the day\, you’ll also hear from leading minds on the evolution of the State Library\, its vision and role from colony to an institution supporting research\, communities and digital futures. SUMMARY:Li Cunxin: The Lucky Son
DESCRIPTION:Li Cunxin\, one of the world’s most acclaimed ballet dancers and cultural leaders\, lifts the curtain on his much-anticipated second memoir\, The Lucky Son.\nBorn into a poor rural family in the People’s Republic of China\, Li Cunxin grew up under Mao Zedong’s rule during the formation of the new communist nation. His extraordinary talent saw him selected to train at the Beijing Dance Academy before he was chosen to study at the Houston Ballet. After defecting to the United States\, Li moved to Australia in 1995. \nHis memoir\, Mao’s Last Dancer\, was published in 2003 to critical acclaim and later adapted into the celebrated 2009 film\, introducing audiences around the world to his remarkable journey. In his second memoir\, The Lucky Son\, Li reflects on the next chapter of his life – from his illustrious career in Australia to the challenges and opportunities of migration\, family and belonging.  \nHe joins Tim Byrne to share his extraordinary story and reflect on the enduring power of the arts to change lives.
