SUMMARY:Creating Through Resistance & Procrastination
DESCRIPTION:A common challenge is that you know what you need to write. You want to write it. And instead you’ve been opening the document\, looking at it\, and closing it again for the past three weeks. \nOr not even opening it. \nProcrastination about writing is rarely about laziness. It’s almost always about something more specific and more interesting than that. Fear of getting it wrong. Fear of finishing. Fear that the project isn’t as good as you need it to be. Fear of what comes after finishing. Fear\, somewhere underneath everything\, that the time and care you’ve invested in this won’t be enough. \nThis masterclass is about understanding that fear\, and writing anyway. \nYou’ll leave with: \n\n\nA clear understanding of what’s underneath your particular version of avoidance \n\n\nPractical\, immediate ways to get back into a project you’ve been circling \n\n\nA bridge strategy for making each writing session easier to return to \n\n\nThe distinction between resistance\, depletion\, and information and what each needs \n\n\nA done list that proves to your brain that finishing is possible \n\n\nWho this is for \n\n\nWriters who know what they need to write and can’t quite make themselves do it \n\n\nWriters circling a project that matters to them but keeps not getting started \n\n\nWriters who start things and struggle to sustain them through to the end \n\n\nAnyone whose inner critic is loudest the moment they sit down to write \n\n\nFormat: Interactive and engaging (not a lecture). Cameras optional. Recording available with no time limit. \nInvestment: \n\n\n$22 single session \n\n\n$198 annual pass (10+ masterclasses & monthly Mindset Insight newsletters throughout the year)

SUMMARY:Writers in RESIDENCE: George Megalogenis
DESCRIPTION:Hear from legendary political journalist George Megalogenis as he sheds light on the forces reshaping our national identity in an intimate evening of dinner and conversation at RESIDENCE at the Potter.\nGeorge Megalogenis is one of Australia’s leading political and economic thinkers\, with a keen eye for identifying big-picture global trends. Now\, he turns his attention to the social and political forces that are defining – and redefining – the nation’s politics as Australia charts its course through the 21st century. \nOver a refined two-course meal at RESIDENCE at the Potter\, Megalogenis discusses his new book Three Shocks\, the inside story of which Australian political parties are keeping up with the times and which of those are getting left behind. He lays out the three major societal shifts that are contributing to these changes and illuminates how demographic\, economic and social trends are shaping the political mood of the nation. \nJoin Megalogenis for a deeply insightful exploration of the structural shifts occurring in Australia’s political landscape. With host Professor Glyn Davis\, the interim Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne.

SUMMARY:Katie Hoskins in conversation
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to have Katie Hoskins join us to talk about her debut novel\, When the Party’s Over.\n\nOne party. One pill. Mothers don’t get second chances. Natalie knows her life looks perfect from the outside: Three young children\, a loving husband\, the tastefully renovated Eastern Suburbs cottage. So why does she feel so suffocated? On her 36th birthday\, all Natalie wants is to gather her two best friends and leave their responsibilities behind just for one night. But when the party’s over\, she finds eighteen-month-old Toby clutching an unmistakable colourful tablet – with a quarter missing.\n\nWhat kind of mother could let this happen? As Toby recovers and returns home\, the fallout really begins. Because each of these women has their own truth about that night – and when it all comes to light\, will any of their friendships survive?\n\nFree\, but bookings are essential.

SUMMARY:Primary Book Chat with Sarah Armstrong & Shivaun Plozza
DESCRIPTION:The Little Bookroom is excited to bring back the popular night for Teachers\, Librarians\, Home-Schoolers\, Parents\, or any other grown-up interested in what books are being published that tick curriculum boxes or could engage young readers on any number of topics! \nBook Chat is a casual\, entertaining\, but enlightening night. \n\n\n6pm for a 6:30 start (browse the shelves before we kick off) \n\n\nMichael will lead a special guest in a Q&A/Discussion about their latest release and how it’s a perfect fit for schools and libraries – be it in the classroom\, or to promote to students for their free-choice reading. \n\n\nWe take a short comfort break. \n\n\nMichael takes us\, rapid-fire\, through some of the recent releases that might pique the interest of the Education Sector\, focusing on local publishing and quality reads. \n\n\n  \nTERM 3 SPECIAL GUESTS:\n  \nHear Sarah Armstrong and Shivaun Plozza in conversation about their new middle grade novels\, both of which weave together adventure and environmental themes. \n  \nThese two fantastic authors both have A LOT of writing experience between them and this disscussion is not one to miss! \n  \nSarah Armstrong \nSarah Armstrong is an award-winning journalist and the author of three acclaimed novels for adults\, including the Miles Franklin-shortlisted Salt Rain. Her novels for children include the CBCA Notable Book Big Magic and its sequel Magic Awry\, and her forthcoming middle-grade novel\, Run. Sarah lives with her partner and daughter in the NSW town of Mullumbimby. \n  \nShivaun Plozza \nShivaun Plozza’s middle grade debut\, The Boy\, the Wolf\, and the Stars\, was a JLG selection. Her other middle grade novels include A Reluctant Witch’s Guide to Magic\, Meet Me at the Moon Tree\, which was shortlisted for the ABIA awards\, and Summer of Shipwrecks\, which was shortlisted for the Queensland Literary Awards. Running in Circles is her latest novel. Her YA novels\, Frankie\, Tin Heart\, andThe Worst Perfect Moment\, are award-winning and are widely celebrated. Shivaun lives in Geelong with her cat\, Fenchurch. \n  \nAbout Sarah’s book\, The Wave: \nFrom the acclaimed author of Run comes this exhilarating survivalist novel about 13-year-old Max\, who is home alone when a tsunami warning hits his coastal town. \nMax loves surfing\, the beach\, and the chilled-out island he calls home – though he doesn’t love all the tourists that swarm his peaceful beach town every summer. When a warning comes that an unexpected tsunami is just hours away\, Max is home on his own and he can’t find his beloved dog\, Ralph. \nWith precious time ticking away and people speeding past him out of town\, Max is running out of time to get to higher ground. Ultimately\, he will have to choose between trying to survive a tsunami on his own\, or banding together with whichever strangers are left behind\, even if they’re tourists. And he’d better hurry\, because the tsunami is going to hit any moment … \nPerfect for fans of Tristan Bancks and Katherine Rundell\, this gripping novel explores couarage\, misplaced loyalty and survival in the face of disaster. \n  \nAbout Shivaun’s book\, Running in Circles: \nFrom award-winning author Shivaun Plozza comes this moving coming-of-age story about family\, picking your battles and the transformative power of science. \nWhen crop circles appear in Tully\, North Queensland\, twelve-year-old Dell knows it’s a hoax. She’s a future climate scientist who believes in facts\, not science fiction. But Dell’s estranged mum is an extraterrestrial fanatic. She blusters back into town armed with alien conspiracy theories and a dazzling smile. \nIf Dell can prove the crop circle is fake\, surely her mum will hightail it out of Tully again\, preferably before she causes Dell’s dad and three sisters further heartbreak. But as her mother’s claims grow more out of this world and alien fever takes over the country\, Dell worries she’s fighting a lost cause. How can she convince anyone of the truth when they’re all so desperate to believe a lie?

SUMMARY:Chaotic Musings: Poetry Social Club
DESCRIPTION:A welcoming and community-driven poetry open mic for everyone. \n\n\n\n\n\nVibe Union is an inclusive\, artistic collective welcoming diverse people of all experiences and backgrounds. We aim\, at every one of our events and in our online presence\, to create a safe space for all. \nWe welcome all who attend our events to provide feedback and direction on how we present these spaces in the name of making all feel welcome and heard. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the few short years that Vibe Union has existed\, we’ve explored many diverse ideas and been many things. But the one constant has been our focus on providing a platform for local Melbourne artists. \nFrom poetry nights to open mic live streams\, video series\, and a podcast\, we can’t exactly sit still. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing\, just that we’re creating and helping others create. \nThese days\, Vibe Union is hosting events for incredible\, like minded artists around Melbourne. \nOpen mic stages are the birthplace of many a collective or group. Unknowingly at the time\, the seeds of our humble community started in Brunswick at Bar Oussou. Over the course of a few months\, friendships formed and plans were made for collaboration. \nOver one weekend\, producers\, vocalists\, and rappers united to create whatever came organically. And quickly we had multiple songs complete and the starts of many others. \nEverything was looking poised for take off\, before lockdowns hit. \nFunnily enough\, this is what really kicked us into gear. We now had a lot of time on our hands\, and some savvy tech heads to lead the way through digital collaboration. \nLive events when we could\, live streams when we couldn’t. A podcast was recorded over Discord and new songs were created remotely. \nWe threw ourselves into whatever we could and welcomed anyone who wanted to contribute. \nAbove all else\, we had a sense of community we all desperately needed during a scary and lonely time to be living. \nAnd since then\, our group has shifted in size\, projects have come and gone\, but we keep putting on events for Melbourne. \nHigher production value projects; new exciting venues; but always locally focused. We’ve known after a few years of Vibe Union that helping artists find their feet is our passion. And above all else\, this is a welcoming\, supportive\, and inclusive space for everyone.

SUMMARY:Opening Night: RETRIBUTION
DESCRIPTION:The land hums as a farmer tramples into her grasslands\, silently waiting. Something ghostly and hungered slips through the darkened hallways of a prison and snatches an unsuspecting guard. An ancient being is disturbed from his slumber by the gas drilling rig. Bile rises from the earth\, acidic and rotting\, swallowing an entire city whole. \nExperience a night of terror\, rage\, and retribution\, featuring readings from Blak writers from across the continent. Horror will be appropriated and re-imagined as Indigenous self-determination is projected back onto the settler gaze. Careful\, coloniser. Many things go missing in the night. You might just be next.

SUMMARY:2026 ‘Time To Write’ Paragraph Fellowship Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Many emerging and early career writers hit a brutal “valley of death” after their first or second book. Caught between conflicting demands: the relentless pressure of bills that won’t wait for inspiration\, and the solitary\, time-intensive and largely unpaid work of crafting their next novel.   \nThe Time to Write Paragraph Fellowship was established to support such writers through the commercial reality they face\, enabling them to carve out more time to write. Nominations come from eminent writers\, publishers\, literary agents\, festival directors\, creative writing professionals\, editors and journalists from across the country.   \nThis session announces the two winners of the $25\,000 2026 Paragraph Fellowship. Enjoy a reading of both their works\, and a panel conversation between the 2025 Paragraph Fellow Grace Chan\, EWF Executive Director & Co-CEO Jes Layton\, and the chair of Time to Write\, celebrated author Toni Jordan.  \nPlease note that this event will also be Livestreamed\, and can be attended online. Ticket holders will receive a Livestream link by email\, ahead of the event day. \n\n\n\npresented in partnership with:

SUMMARY:BOOK LAUNCH: Big Mountain\, Little Emu by Emma Stuart
DESCRIPTION:The Little Bookroom is excited to be hosting a very special storytime with Emma Stuart for the launch of her latest picture book\, Big Mountain\, Little Emu. \nPre-order your signed copy HERE! \nAbout the Book: \nAccording to many stories from the Dreaming\, emus are more than just birds. They represent creator spirits that fly through the sky above. These incredible birds help First Nations peoples predict what is happening in the world around them. This is a dreamy educational story of the wonders of Gariwerd’s Big Mountain\, her animals and birds\, and the Emu in the Sky constellation that isnt a collection of stars but actually made up of dark areas in the sky that are outlined by light. To see it\, start by looking at the Southern Cross for the emus head. From there\, you will be able to trace the emus neck\, body and legs between the dust lanes of the Milky Way. \nAbout the Author and Illustrator: \nEmma Stuart was born in New Zealand and has lived in Melbourne\, London\, Berlin\, Alice Springs and now in Western Victoria. She has been illustrating children’s books for 20 years\, having illustrated over 200 books. Emma works primarily with watercolours\, but also uses acrylics\, oils\, pen and ink\, and pencil. Her characters are full of life and bring a real sense of light-heartedness to young readers. In 2021 she won a Literary Titan Book Award; in 2013 she was shortlisted for the Australian Speech Pathology Book of the Year; and she was an International Book Awards finalist in 2014. As well as illustrating children’s books\, Emma regularly exhibits her landscape paintings. Big Mountain\, Little Emu is her second published work as both author and illustrator.
