Brunswick Bound

Angela Savage and Christos Tsiolkas have been friends since they met at university.

They will be in conversation at Brunswick Bound Upstairs to discuss Angela’s first foray into literary fiction (Mother of Pearl) and Christos Tsiolkas’ latest literary masterpiece (Damascus).

Both these books mark a departure for the authors and whilst not autobiographical, they are works of fiction imprinted by each author’s travels, experiences and work to date.

We are very privileged to have these two authors share this conversation with us and cannot wait to hear more about their new works, their inspiration for the work and more about their deep and abiding friendship.

Angela Savage is an award-winning Melbourne writer, who has lived and travelled extensively in Asia. Her debut novel, Behind the Night Bazaar, won the 2004 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an unpublished manuscript. All three of her Jayne Keeney PI novels were shortlisted for Ned Kelly Awards. The Dying Beach was also shortlisted for the 2014 Davitt Award. She has taught writing throughout Australia and overseas. Angela holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Monash University, and is currently Director of Writers Victoria.

Christos Tsiolkas is the author of six novels: Loaded, which was made into the feature film Head-On, The Jesus Man and Dead Europe, which won the 2006 Age Fiction Prize and the 2006 Melbourne Best Writing Award. He won Overall Best Book in the Commonwealth Writers' Prize 2009, was shortlisted for the 2009 Miles Franklin Literary Award, longlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize and won the Australian Literary Society Gold Medal for his novel, The Slap, which was also announced as the 2009 Australian Booksellers Association and Australian Book Industry Awards Books of the Year. His fifth novel, Barracuda, was shortlisted for the ALS Gold Medal and the inaugural Voss Literary Prize. He is also a playwright, essayist and screen writer.
