Join us at 6pm on Wednesday 11th September for an evening of reading and conversation with Philip Salom.
Philip's new novel The Returns is his fourth novel and has already attracted wide praise. He has also published 14 collections of poetry. His recent novel Waiting was shortlisted the prestigious Miles Franklin Literature Award, as well as the Prime Minister's Award and the Victorian Premiers Award. His two earlier novels are Playback, which won the WA Premiers Prize for Fiction, and Toccata and Rain which was shortlisted for the ALS Gold Medal and the WA Premiers Prize.
His poetry awards include twice winning the Commonwealth Poetry Book Prize in London: in 1987 for Overall Best Book of Poetry, and in 1981 the Best First Book Prize for Poetry. He has won the WA Premiers Prize (twice for Poetry) and the prestigious Newcastle Poetry Prize (in 1996 and again in 2000) as well as numerous shortlistings in the major national book awards.
Philip has been recognised with the Christopher Brennan Prize, which is Australia's most prestigious lifetime award for poets for "poetry of sustained quality and distinction".
He has read as a guest writer in America, Canada, Britain, the Republics of Serbia and Macedonia, Italy, Singapore and New Zealand.
The Salon Series brings together our community of writers and readers in a program of informal readings and discussions held in the intimate setting of the bookshop.
Join us at 6pm on the second Wednesday of every month.
