Rolling Up Their Sleeves ~ The Barossa Cookery Book
Books for Cooks
The Barossa Cookery Book is one of Australia's most iconic community books. First published in 1917 as a war fundraiser, much enlarged in 1932 and still in print almost 100 years later, The Barossa Cookery Book has been the mainstay of kitchens throughout rural South-East Australia. After a number of years of painstaking research, Those Barossa Girls (Marieka Ashmore and Sherlee Menz) have written a beautiful biography and companion to The Barossa Cookery Book presenting a selection of iconic recipes in a modern format, and telling the stories of the community of women who contributed their recipes, seasonal, frugal and celebratory to this Australian culinary icon. We are very excited to be hosting the Melbourne launch for this significant book on Australia's rural culinary history. If you already own a copy of The Barossa Cookery Book, you will love this companion, but if you have never explored a historic cookbook, then you are in for a rare treat. Please join us on Tuesday 25th March to hear from the authors and to be inspired by the experience, knowledge and resourcefulness of these traditional recipes and the women behind them. As always there will be tastes from the book(s). Tickets are limited.
