Sun Bookshop 20th Birthday Celebration and Launch of The Bridge
Sun Bookshop
On May 2nd, 1998 The Sun Bookshop opened its doors on Yarraville’s Ballarat Street, transforming the former Sun Theatre Candy Bar into a quiet, cosy space, brimming with shelves packed with thoughtfully curated titles.
In October 2007, the Younger Sun opened as a pop-up shop across the road before moving in 2016 to a bigger, brighter, sunnier location 60 steps away on Murray Street.
To celebrate our milestone 20th Birthday, we are throwing a party! We’d love to see you all there to help us party!
To kick off the festivities Alice Pung will be launching local author, Enza Gandolfo’s new novel, THE BRIDGE – set in Yarraville and inspired by The Westgate Bridge Disaster.
"Drawing on true events of Australia’s worst industrial accident – a tragedy that still scars the city – THE BRIDGE is a profoundly moving novel that examines class, guilt, and moral culpability. Yet it shows that even the most harrowing of situations can give way to forgiveness and redemption. Ultimately, is a testament to survival and the resilience of the human spirit."
This will be followed by a song performed by Billy Miller and Rebecca Barnard, and speeches from some of our favourite locals!
There will be food, drinks, dancing, cake and every reason to celebrate!
