The Hook: Anthony Burgess Earthly Powers

Manchester is a City of Literature

Event Date: 2 July 2020

Time zone in Manchester, UK (GMT+1)

The Hook takes the work of writers embedded in the history of Manchester and connects it to new audiences and other writers, inspiring them to engage with stand-out texts and create brand new work.

We're delighted that The Hook will explore the work of Diké Omeje, Anthony Burgess and Elizabeth Gaskell. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing conversations with panelists, each exploring the works of the aforementioned writers.

For our second instalment, in partnership with The International Anthony Burgess Foundation and Young Identity, Manchester City hosted a conversation exploring Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess, a key text in the development of LGBTQ+ writing as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the publication of Earthly Powers. You can find our more about anniversary events here: #EarthlyPowers40

The discussion is available to view below. In the coming weeks we'll be showcasing the work of the writers involved, and sharing the stimulus so you can get creative too.
