Writing workshop
Hares and Hyenas
Meditation writing exercise with Cathy Johnstone
As a reading group, GCC is interested in the diverse narratives of the LGBTIQA+ community. This writing workshop is intended to support us to tell and share our own stories of gender.
After introductions and a short warm-up, we will be led into a meditation, and invited to recall or visualise a scene or story significant to our own gendering experience or journey; it can be past, present or future, and real or imagined. 20-30 minutes of writing time will be followed by a sharing of our stories, in pairs if you wish.
The group observes strict confidentiality, but if you are not comfortable sharing your story, that’s fine! Attendees will have a diverse experience of gender, and a range of ways of naming this experience. So, if you choose to share sensitive or upsetting content or use contested terms, we ask that you check that these are okay with your partner first. Listeners, please respect the disclosures of the story tellers, and refrain from imposing your own potentially very different frame of reference onto their stories.
BYO pen/pencil and notepad, or laptop.
