Developing Strong Characters
In this workshop, we will explore what makes a compelling and memorable character in fiction. What do we mean when we talk about ‘round’ vs ‘flat’ characters? How do we make our characters feel alive on the page? Even minor ones? Through writing exercises and close reading, we will explore these issues and improve your work by delving deeply into the key to all good fiction: character.
This workshop will take place online via the Writers Victoria Zoom room. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided.
You Will Learn:
- How to develop a protagonist who is memorable and compelling
- How to capture minor characters in a few words
- How to reveal character through detail
- How to reveal character through action and dialogue
- How to reveal character through omission and unreliability
