Dome at dusk: Melbourne’s early water supply

In 1857, Melburnians gathered in Carlton Gardens to watch as water flowed into town from the newly established Yan Yean Reservoir.
James Blackburn, Melbourne’s City Surveyor in 1849, secured the young town’s water supply which resulted in a scheme engineered by Matthew Bullock Jackson.
