Lunchtime Bite: Accessing Creative Flow States

Understanding and accessing creative flow states is a great way to enhance or complement your writing practice. In this session we’ll talk about flow state, what it is, finding your own unique flow state, what to do when you’re not flowing, as well as some strategies and exercises for easily accessing creative flow states. Bring a pen, paper, and a willingness to let go and let the flow take over!
This seminar will take place online. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided.
You Will Learn:
- · What is a flow state?
- · Some strategies/techniques for getting into the flow state
- · Defining and finding your own flow state
- · It’s okay not to flow – what to do when you’re not flowing
- · Some easy flow exercises e.g. The Daily Pages from ‘The Artist’s Way’
About the Tutor:
Jennifer Nguyen is the Program Admin Officer: Competitions at Writers Victoria. Jennifer is the author of poetry chapbook When I die slingshot my ashes onto the surface of the moon (Subbed In, 2019). Her work has been published in Overland, Cordite, Best of Australian Poems 2021, City of Literature’s Poet Laureates of Melbourne series, among others. In 2019 she received a Wheeler Centre Hot Desk fellowship for poetry. She was the 2022 Associate Producer at Emerging Writers’ Festival.
