Poetry can seem mysterious and difficult. But you can write it – and this online course aims to expand your skills and confidence. Each month, participants receive a brief prompt to help them start a new poem, which they will then show to the rest of the group. Andy will provide precise, constructive suggestions for improvement, along with some ideas to expand your reading and writing practice. All participants are also encouraged to give feedback.

Poems of up to 80 lines due 31 January, 28 February, 28 March, 25 April, 30 May.

Our Online Feedback Clinics are asynchronous, with no face-to-face meetings, allowing you to engage with the content at the times of day and week that suit your schedule. They are hosted on our private Wordpress server. There will be an optional Zoom introduction to the clinic website for those less confident with technology, which will be recorded for those who cannot attend live. You Will:

• gain confidence in yourself as a writer of poetry
• try some new poetic forms and techniques
• discover some new poets that will enhance your own work
• improve your ability to read other people's poems and give feedback
• have five poems ready to submit for publication

About the Tutor:

Andy Jackson is a poet and creative writing teacher, and was awarded the inaugural Writing the Future of Health Fellowship. He has been shortlisted for the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry, the John Bray Poetry Award and the Victorian Premier's Prize for Poetry. Andy has co-edited disability-themed issues of Southerly and Australian Poetry Journal, and his latest poetry collection is Human Looking, which won the 2022 ALS Gold Medal.
