present tense .6 ‘short excitement and violent morning’: A life in the archives
present tense
RMIT Adjunct Professor and writer Sophie Cunningham explores the pleasures and intrigues of the literary archive including the ways in which an archive can inspire a novel’s form, at the same time as informing the novelist’s research.
Sophie Cunningham has been on the publishing scene in Australia for more than thirty years. She is the author of four books, Geography (2004), Bird (2008), Melbourne (2011) and Warning: The Story of Cyclone Tracy (2014). Her next title, City of Trees: essays on life, death and the need for a forest, is due out in early 2019. Her third novel, This Devastating Fever, which is based on the life of Leonard Woolf and is the basis of this lecture, is to be published in 2020.
