Stella is proud to partner with the University of Melbourne and key industry partners on the ARC Linkage Project Reading Climate: Indigenous Literatures, school English and sustainability. A core part of this project will be book groups dedicated to reading Praiseworthy, a novel by celebrated Waanyi writer Alexis WrightPraiseworthy won both the Stella Prize and the Miles Franklin Award, as well as numerous other literary accolades in 2024.

Book clubs will run from July to December 2025 and are led by the Literary Education Lab, housed by the University of Melbourne in partnership with STELLA, AATE, and Feral Arts.  This national project brings together Indigenous literatures, climate education, and social and racial justice.

By joining a book club, you’ll have the opportunity to share your perspectives and questions, and engage with fellow educators, readers, and Indigenous authors, unlocking the power of literature to build knowledge and imagine innovative and environmentally focused futures. Broadly, the project is interested in the relationship between online book clubs and collaboration among teachers, general readers, authors, and experts in the field.

Praiseworthy is a big book! You aren't expected to read it before the book clubs commence (but you can, of course!). You'll be supported in engaging with this amazing work throughout the book club meetings.

There is a range of book club options designed to suit a busy schedule.  Please visit the ArtsFront website via this link to complete your registration and choose a book club.
