Training: Ebooks for Beginners
Editors Victoria
The publishing industry is undergoing a revolution! Or so they say. With all the talk about newfangled ebooks, tablets, readers, EPUB, mobi, XML, CSS and the myriad of other technologies and formats out there, it’s enough to make an editor’s head spin. What are ebooks? How are they created? Where does the editor fit into an ebook workflow? What does an editor need to know and learn in order to keep up with all these changes?
Topics covered
This session will answer these questions and more, including understanding:
· what ebooks are and the different formats involved
· the place of ebooks in the publishing industry
· how audiences obtain and read ebooks
· typical workflows for ebook production
· the editor’s role in ebook creation
· accessibility, standards and best practice
· future developments in ebook technologies.
Participants will be provided with links to resources for finding out more about ebooks.
Note: This session is not lab-based and therefore does not involve the hands-on creation of ebooks, although the issues involved in this process will be considered in the course of the discussion.
Delivery method
The format will comprise a mixture of presentation, question and answer, and discussion of issues. Participants are encouraged to take an active part in the session.
