Writeability Goes Local: Melton Writers Group
Writers Victoria
Writers with disability from Melton are invited to attend our free Writeability Goes Local: Melton Writers Group. The Writers Group is a series of free skills development workshops open to writers with all levels of experience. This is a facilitated writing group led by an experienced writing mentor, Ruby Hillsmith. Sessions will include a tutorial with a guest writer with disability and will make use of films and other resources from Writers Victoria’s Writeability Archive. The writing group will be held monthly from May 2023 through to December 2023. The Writeability Goes Local: Melton Writers Group is scheduled to run for eight sessions over the coming months. Writers with disability at all levels of experience are invited to attend. The introductory session – the Own Voices Forum – explores how language, writing and telling our own stories helps transform ways of thinking about the self, disability and community.
Who is it for?
Writeability Goes Local: Melton is for writers and aspiring writers with disability in Melton.
When we say that Writeability is a program for people with disability, we mean that it's for anyone who experiences barriers as a result of their particular condition (such as the lack of physical access, communication barriers, discrimination or other people’s attitudes).
This includes (but isn't limited to) people with sensory or physical issues, hidden issues, ongoing medical conditions, learning difficulties or mental health conditions. If you self-identify as a person with disability, or as someone who experiences barriers as a result of your condition, then this opportunity is for you.

More about Writeability Goes Local
Writeability Goes Local: Melton is a collaboration between Writers Victoria, Melton City Council and Melton Libraries. It is funded by the Melton City Council.
This eight-month creative writing program aims to reduce the disadvantages that disabled writers can face due to social isolation, the expense of professional development and the assumption that people with disability need other people to tell their stories.
