Join the author of Personal Score: Sport, Culture, Identity Ellen van Neerven as they lead a workshop on developing writing that captures the joys, tensions, and complexities of sport. This course is suited to participants working in any genre or style, from non-fiction to children’s books and poetry, to hone specific skills in narrative, voice, movement and gesture.

This workshop will take place online. Details instructions for participation will be provided.

You Will Learn:

  • How to capture movement on the page
  • How to develop an authentic writing voice
  • How to consider sport against and with different kinds of power
  • Practical exercises for portraying sport and people who play sport
  • How to add to an archive of texts that offer vital and unique perspectives on sport

About the Tutor:

Ellen van Neerven is an award-winning writer of Mununjali and Dutch heritage. Ellen has authored two poetry collections, Comfort Food and Throat, one work of fiction, Heat and Light, and a non-fiction title Personal Score: Sport, Culture, Identity.
