Avant-garde Artists’ Books 1900–40 at the NGV
Melbourne Rare Book Week
In the first decades of the twentieth century, artists’ books became a popular medium for avant-garde artists and writers. Transformations in book design and radical experimentation with image and text characterize the book collaborations of many artists and poets of the period. This session features new acquisitions, including La Fin du Monde (1919) by Blaise Cendrars and Fernand Léger; Une Semaine de Bonté (1934) by Max Ernst; Facile (1935) by Paul Eluard and Man Ray amongst others.
