Bicycles and Baguettes

Write Around the Murray

Event Date: 14 September 2019
Author / Presenters: Steven Herrick

Author and poet, Steven Herrick, spends an enviable proportion of his life touring exotic countries with his wife Cathie and their two hardy bikes, christened Jenny and Craig. Steven's cycle touring books are part bicycle adventure, part culinary safari. They are essentially handbooks for those who enjoy slow food, grassroots travel and long-distance cycling. They cover travels through Japan, South Korea, Norway, France, Scotland, the Mediterranean and more.

This event begins with an appetite-stimulating 7km bike ride from Noreuil Park to Wonga Wetlands. The bike track follows the beautiful Murray River and takes in the Yindyamarra Sculpture Trail and stunning wetlands and birdlife.

Over gourmet baguettes, local wine and craft beer at Wonga Wetlands, Steven shares his travel tips and stories from thousands of miles cycled through Europe, Asia and Australia. If you’re contemplating bicycle travel, whether long or short distances, come armed with all your questions. Steven is keen to share insights from his extensive experience. He can also talk about travel writing and blogging.

The bike ride departs at 10.30am from Noreuil Park with the lunch and talk from 11.30am to 1pm at Wonga Wetlands.

You are welcome to skip the bicycle ride and head straight to Wonga.

Bookings close 2pm, Thursday 12 September 2019.
