Blak & Bright Presents: Blak Ink – Poetic Power with Laniyuk and Evelyn Araluen
Blak and Bright
Over four unforgettable evenings, two powerhouse Blak writers will share their journeys, their craft, and the raw, unapologetic stories that fuel their words. This isn’t just about writing; it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and the pure power of storytelling. You’ll laugh, you’ll reflect, and you’ll walk away inspired – Blak Ink is a yarn you won’t want to miss. Edition 1: Poetic Power with Laniyuk and Evelyn Araluen Thursday 3 April, 6pm to 7pm Poetry is power and this night will prove it. Laniyuk and Evelyn Araluen bring words that cut through silence, challenge the status quo and hold deep to culture, memory and resistance. Their poetry is sharp, lyrical and unflinching; rooted in Country, identity and the strength carried through generations. This is storytelling that doesn’t ask for permission. It reclaims, disrupts, and demands to be heard. Come for the poetry, stay for the power and leave with a renewed appreciation for the force of Blak feminist storytelling in shaping the world we live in. Author Bios Evelyn Araluen is a Goorie and Koori poet, researcher and editor. Her 2021 collection Dropbear won the 2022 Stella Prize. Her second collection, The Rot will be published by UQP in 2025. She is the co-editor of Overland Literary Journal, and a lecturer in Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development at the Wilin Centre. Laniyuk is a Larrakia, Kungarakan, Gurindji and French writer and performer of poetry and short memoir. She received Canberra’s Noted Writers Festival’s 2017 Indigenous Writers Residency, Overland’s 2018 Writers Residency and was shortlisted for Overland’s 2018 Nakata Brophy Short Fiction and Poetry Prize.
