The day Abram Goldberg arrived at Auschwitz with his mother, they both knew it would be her last. In their final moments, she urged her 19-year-old son to “do everything humanly possible to survive and tell people what happened here”. Goldberg did survive and now, aged 98, he discusses his memoir, The Strength of Hope, with his co-author and friend Fiona Harris.
