Melbourne Rare Book Week
From the 1960s, the book became popular with conceptual artists who sought to redefine the nature of art. Low cost printed items could be easily circulated to circumvent the commercial art system while facilitating the exploration of language and ideas central to conceptual art. Many conceptual artists also explored systems and seriality; and the book’s format, with its multiple pages and sequencing of content, was ideally suited to these investigations. View publications by Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Sol Lewitt, Art & Language, Seth Siegelaub, Robert Jacks, Robert Rooney and others in this session.
