FWF2020 ThinkIns Panel: Our Culture of Violence.

Australia is experiencing violence against women at diabolical levels, despite higher than ever levels of community awareness and action. This panel will question where money and resources are going, discuss how to keep up momentum in the face of backlash and apathy, and spotlight initiatives to curb the family violence crisis.

CW: This event deals with themes of sexual violence and may include explicit discussion of sexual assault.

Panellists:
Nicole Lee is a family violence survivor,passionate public advocate and previous member of Victoria’s first Victim Survivors’ Advisory Council. Lee, who uses a wheelchair, focuses on family violence perpetrated against those who have a disability or who depend on carers or family members for support, and uses her lived experience of family violence to speak out for those who don’t yet have a voice.

Dr Kyllie Cripps is a Scientia Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the Law Faculty at the University of New South Wales. Kyllie, as a Palawa woman, has worked extensively over the past twenty years in the areas of family violence, sexual assault and child abuse with Indigenous communities, defining areas of need and considering intervention options at multiple levels. She has led three major Australian Research Council grants in the areas of Indigenous family violence.

Dr Emma Fulu [Chair] is a feminist activist, social entrepreneur and a world-leading expert on violence against women. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Equality Institute, and the co-founder of VOICE. Previously she led the ground-breaking UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence. Emma is Co-Chair of WHO’s Gender and Rights Advisory Panel, and a member of the Global Women’s Institute Leadership Council.
