Judging a book by its cover

Bendigo Writers Festival

Event Date: 9 August 2019
Author / Presenters: Sarah Mayor Cox, Lorraine Marwood, Susan Green

Do you judge a book by its cover? If so, what do you base your judgement on? Favourite author or illustrator? Topic of book? Recommendations by friends/teachers/librarian? Media buzz about the book? Movie/TV series of the book coming out? Review by someone? It’s won a prize? The members of this panel, all have to judge books in one way or another: Lorraine Marwood (Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Comp judge, multiple Award-winning author), Susan Green (award-winning author and bookseller), Fred 10 year old Inky Judge and 12 year old Shadow Inky Judge. Sarah Mayor Cox hosts a discussion about how our guests became judges, why they wanted to do it, and shares examples of how they judge. Top tips for future writers about how to get your writing out there, noticed and awarded will also be included.
