Mission Songs Project
Glen Eira Library service
Join social historian and Indigenous song-keeper, Jessie Lloyd, for Mission Songs Project, which, through song, reveals the day-to-day life of Australian Aboriginal people forcibly removed from traditional homelands and sent to missions and state-run settlements during the Missions Era.
In times of great distress, these truthful songs are surprisingly filled with optimism and hope, exploring cultural identity, love, and loss.
Through beautiful vocals, intimate storytelling and historical insights, Jessie shares a musical time travel of original compositions from mission residents over generations, connecting the traditional with the contemporary and revealing the continuation of cultural practice and song traditions into the twenty first century.
Suitable for ages 15 and up.
Bookings essential. Tickets: $10 / Concession: $5
