Bill Garner moderates a discussion between Alex Ettling, Sarah MacLean and Richard Gilbert about the ways that booze has shaped our lives. Alex Ettling is a social historian based in Melbourne, Australia. His historical practise incorporates writing, graphics and audio, frequently working in collaboration. Alex has been conducting an oral history program since 2018, and is a co-editor of Knocking The Top Off: A People's History of Alcohol in Australia. Sarah MacLean is a professor of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University. She's a sociologist with an interest in cultural and social aspects of alcohol use. She's written on how the places where we drink (eg at home, at a pub) can change our experiences of alcohol.  Richard Gilbert has been involved in volunteer organisations since 1965, particularly in tourist railways and tramways. Richard has published three books and currently edits and produces a periodical magazine. He joined CCI in 2008 and has been on the Board since then. Richard held the Presidency for one term. Bill Garner is a former habitue of various Carlton hotels where his careers as actor, writer,and academic were burnished by alcoholic beverages consumed in the company of the finest talkers in the land. His history of Australian camping, Born in a Tent, remains the authority on the subject.
