Sometimes in life it can be hard to speak up, even if you’re a semi-finalist in a national public speaking competition. Katherine Collette’s character, Frances, in her new novel, The Competition, is desperate to win the SpeechMakers championship—but mostly for the prize money that goes along with it. However, once she starts talking, Frances finds it’s difficult to stop. Katherine Collette talks to Amy Doak about finding your voice, telling the truth, and negotiating the messy business of self-belief.
