Word for Word Non-fiction Festival
Word for Word Festival
Highly-acclaimed Australian writer Peter Carey will headline this year’s Word for Word National Non-Fiction Festival in a program full of ‘must-see’ events. The largest national event to showcase non-fiction writing in all forms, Word for Word has helped to position Geelong and the region as a centre of cultural excellence and in its first three years has made a significant mark on Australia’s literary festival landscape.
This year’s festival will be held at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre (The Dome) and will run from Friday 17 November to Sunday 19 November 2017, and this year's sessions explore the intersection between fiction and non-fiction through a series of workshops, forums, key-note addresses and panel discussions.
Ideas, discussion and debate will flow across the three days, with more than 80 enthralling guest speakers, including barrister and human rights advocate Julian Burnside QC, prolific novelist Frank Moorhouse, best-selling history writer, Peter FitzSimons, former national news anchor Tracey Spicer and retired tennis-player Jelena Dokic.
The 2017 program includes a return of the Great Debate which proved to be extremely popular in its debut year in 2016. This year, the festival premieres sessions on song-writing and a special musical salon event with musicians Rob Snarski and Charles Jenkins.
