Write Around the Murray
Running from 5 to 9 September 2018 in Albury, this stimulating festival presents a dynamic and high-calibre program in a friendly and relaxed environment. The five day event is the only literary festival in the Southern Riverina and provides a unique opportunity for readers and residents to get unprecedented access to some of Australia’s most beloved authors.
This year's Write Around the Murray will include authors such as Jessie Cole, Mark Smith, Mark Brandi, Lisa Dempster, Ailsa Piper, Torre DeRoche, Chris Hammer and Mantra. The book of the festival is "The Bookshop of the Broken Hearted" by Robert Hillman.
Write Around the Murray is an annual boutique festival of reading, writing, illustration and storytelling held in Albury, NSW. Hosted by Albury City Council, it features more than 30 of Australia’s top writers in an intimate and friendly environment. It includes feature events such as Stereo Stories, the WAM Slam poetry slam, panel sessions, author talks, book launches, workshops, a literary lunch, short story competitions, children's activities, a three-day schools program, exhibitions and a wood-fired oven event by the Murray River.
Write Around the Murray is the only literary based festival in the region, attracting both high profile and emerging authors and presenters. It’s a dynamic and stimulating event that is open to everyone and many of the events are free or gold coin donation. Write Around the Murray provides a unique opportunity for the community from the rural NSW Riverina area and beyond to not only listen to their favourite authors, storytellers and illustrators, but also to meet and talk to them.
Jason Steger of ABC TV’s The Book Club is one of the regular presenters at Write Around the Murray each year and he describes the festival as “small but perfectly formed”. Past writers and storytellers to attend Write Around the Murray in Albury include Isobelle Carmody, Tim Flannery, Graeme Base, Benjamin Law, Graeme Simsion and Jackie French.
