A Resilient Life – Mariam Issa
Hobsons Bay Libraries
Mariam Issa came to Australia as a refugee from Somalia in 1998 and now works and lives in Melbourne. Mariam is a human rights advocate, visionary story teller and author of A Resilient Life. As the founder of RAW (Resilient Aspiring Women) she has opened her backyard as a community garden and as an autonomous platform.
The platform is a space to celebrate the uniqueness of women in their lives, their communities and beyond. She is now a voice for women, and recognises that all women, no matter their culture, need someone to believe in them and support them. She believes that the potential of women is immense and when nurtured it shines and comes alive.
Mariam is passionate to inspire, educate and build rich community connections.
Join us as she shares her extraordinary and challenging journey in creating resilience and celebrating culture.
Local asylum seeker and refugee organisations will offer information about making a difference to the lives of refugees in our own backyard.
