Calling all poets: Sunbury Library is hosting a heat for the Australian Poetry Slam, facilitated by professional performing writers. Join us for a live literary performance program where the audience decides the champion. Come cheer along in the crowd or get on stage and share your stories, raps, monologues or poems. We paused. Took a moment. A world-wide “…Ummm”. Now, the slam storm returns. In 2023, flex your vocal chords with a new voice. Run with new leaders. Turn your moments of “…um” into MomentUm. Write new poetic revolutions. You’ve got two minutes on the mic. Build your MomentUm to crescendo and be heard. Poetry Slams and wordshops are popping up around the nation. From June to October, 1000 writers will grab their moment in the spotlight leading to one National Final at Sydney Opera House and a prize worth $20,000, including publishing opportunities and gigs from Byron to Bali and beyond. Two poets chosen by the Sunbury audience head to the Victorian Final! Poets must perform in their residing state or territory to be eligible. Full APS 2023 rules here: www.australianpoetryslam.com/rules You can pre-register as a performer through our website. A limited number of spaces will be available on the day for any last-minute registrations. Audience members are also invited to book tickets, so we can ensure there is room for everyone. Content Warning: This event is for all ages and some content may not be suitable for children. Performers and aspiring poets are invited to join one of our wordshops to prepare for the slams: Broadmeadows Library: Monday 21 August, 6pm-8pm Sunbury Library: Thursday 24 August, 6pm-8pm
