Whiteboarding is about Australian schooling from the chalk face. This novel explores just how raw and fraught the ‘show business’ can be for teachers of adolescents in schools ranging from the ‘privileged’ to the ‘disadvantaged’.

The novel is about Mae and Brendan who shared a Post Graduate year in Education, before embarking on their respective teaching careers and the rest of their lives. And while there are both similarities and differences in their experiences, commitment to their calling, belief in learning and the humane values to be found in Literature and History, and the filter of a sharp, honest humour are common to both of their stories.

Author Ross Topham lives writes and works on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. He graduated from The University of Melbourne with a First Class Honours Degree in History, majoring in Australian and Twentieth Century History.

History is an abiding feature in his creative writing as is the motif of water; he grew up in inner Melbourne, alongside the Yarra River, and these days is ‘watermarked’ by his proximity to Western Port Bay.

Ross has previously published short stories and poetry in various literary journals. He has been commended in the Alan Marshall Short Story Award and achieved second place in the inaugural Grace Marion Wilson Short Story Award of Writers Victoria.
