Not Just Lucky is a career manifesto for millennial women and the debut book from writer and political commentator Jamila Rizvi. Jamila will discuss her book with feminist thinker Clementine Ford, author of Fight Like A Girl and columnist for Fairfax’s Daily Life.

Jamila Rizvi is a columnist for News Limited and writes about politics, gender and parenting. Jamila hosts ‘The Schmunday Show’ on Fox FM, Melbourne and has appeared regularly on The Project, The Feed, The Drum and ABC News Breakfast. She is the former editor-in- chief of the Mamamia Women’s Network and was also a political staffer for former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Minister Kate Ellis.

Jamila is a preeminent voice of young Australian women online and has been named one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence. Not Just Lucky (Penguin, 2017) was described by Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard as ‘feisty and inquisitive, a fresh take on modern feminist issues.’ Jamila’s second book, an anthology of essays about motherhood, will be released in 2018. Jamila is an Ambassador for CARE Australia and refugee advocacy group Welcome to Australia. She is a board member for public policy think tank, The McKell Institute and the Melbourne’s Writer’s Festival. Jamila studied at the Australian National University, where she was the student body president in 2008. Jamila holds bachelor degrees in law and commerce and was named Young Alumnus of the Year in 2014. She lives in Melbourne with her husband Jeremy, toddler Rafi and a lot of washed but regretfully unfolded washing.

Clementine Ford is a freelance writer, broadcaster and feminist thinker based in Melbourne. She is a columnist for Fairfax’s Daily Life and regularly contributes to The Age and the Sydney Herald Sun. She writes on feminism, pop culture and social issues. Clementine blogs at clementineford.com.au.
