Laura McPhee-Browne: Cherry Beach
Kill Your Darlings
In partnership with the Kill Your Darlings First Book Club, Laura McPhee-Browne will discuss her book Cherry Beach in conversation with Ellen Cregan ar Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library.
Laura McPhee-Browne’s debut novel follows two friends, Hetty and Ness, who leave Melbourne for the first time to live abroad. Beautifully written and intimate, Cherry Beach is a revelatory story of friendship and desire.
"We arrived on a Tuesday, I can remember that. I can remember Hetty’s hand in mine as we moved slowly down the steps of the escalator, as if standing completely still would have been harder than moving."
Laura McPhee-Browne is a writer and social worker living in Melbourne, on Wurundjeri land. Her short stories have been published widely in Australia. Laura also volunteers as a fiction editor for the literary magazine Verity La. Cherry Beach is her first novel.
Established in 2014, the Kill Your Darlings First Book Club partners with local publishers to each month promote a new release debut book of fiction or non-fiction that KYD is gunning for everyone to read!
