Nick Gadd – Psychogeography and the City (Half Day Writers' Workshop) 10:30am *IN-PERSON EVENT

Event Date: 8 May 2021
Author / Presenters: Nick Gadd

This presentation will introduce participants to the literary and artistic practice of psychogeography and encourage them to use these concepts in their own writing. Participants will hone their eyes to old signage, details of architecture, traces of the past, and the poetry of the everyday. Inspired by the Situationists, we will investigate how ordinary urban places provide rich source material. Whether you write fiction, non-fiction, poetry or memoir, this event will stimulate ideas. Includes a workshop, writing time and a wander. Afterwards, participants will receive personalised feedback on one piece of writing from Nick.

Nick Gadd is a writer, walker, psychogeographer and blogger. His most recent book Melbourne Circle: Walking, Memory and Loss was published in December 2020, describing a psychogeographical walk around the city of Melbourne in the company of his late wife. Nick is also the author of two novels, Death of a Typographer and the award-winning Ghostlines. In 2015 he won the Nature Conservancy Australia Nature Writing Prize. He has led psychogeography walks and workshops for Melbourne Writers Festival, Mildura Writers’ Festival, Write Around the Murray, and Writers Victoria. Find more at nickowriter.com.
