oanne Brookfield has spent two decades working in the world of comedy, as both a journalist and a stand-up comedian. Over coffee, wine, laughter and tears, she’s talked with the women of comedy about every aspect of their lives.

Joanne Brookfield is joined by Jo Stanley and Judith Lucy to discuss the reality of their lives working in comedy. Together they look at some of the challenges women face in comedy and the ways in which they have been able to triumph. This session is a must-see not only for comedy fans but any women working in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Joanne Brookfield is a journalist and comedy writer. A graduate of RMIT's BA in Journalism, she works as a freelance print journalist, writing mainly for Fairfax (The Age, Sydney Morning Herald and the Canberra Times). She has also contributed to The Guardian UK, The Sunday Herald Sun, The Mercury, The Courier Mail plus a variety of magazines. A lifelong comedy fan, she has always reported on the world of comedy, having covered the three biggest festivals in the world - Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Montreal Just For Laughs - plus other comedy and fringe festivals. She's also been a stand up herself, having performed multiple seasons of her shows around Australia and New Zealand.

Jo Stanley is a comedian, writer, actor and presenter. She spent ten years as one of Melbourne’s most loved breakfast radio entertainers on the Matt and Jo Show on Fox FM, and can now be heard on Gold 104.3’s breakfast show, Jo and Lehmo. Jo appears regularly on all networks of Australian television, on shows such as The Project, The Today Show and Studio 10. She writes for newspapers and magazines around the country, including a regular column in Sunday Life Magazine.

Judith Lucy started performing stand up over 20 years ago, and since then all her shows have been utterly, achingly, ‘provide warnings to asthmatics’ funny. Rivetingly honest, with a Gatling gun gag rate, no-one sees just one Judith Lucy show. She’s the best-selling author of two devastatingly honest, hilarious books; created two of her own AACTA Award-nominated ABC series; won the 2015 Best Comedy Performer Helpmann Award and in 2017, with Denise Scott, won the 2017 Melbourne Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award. In 2019, Judith took up a regular seat on ABC TV’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering with her segment, Judith Lucy: Wellness Warrior and toured a brand new stand up show Judith Lucy Vs Men.
