This Refugee Week we are celebrating the resilience and contribution of our Refugee communities in Hume! You are invited to Broadmeadows Library for a morning tea, featuring a book reading from beloved local author Abdi Aden. This event will be catered by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. Tickets are free, but bookings are essential. Abdi arrived in Australia as a Somalian refugee, with no family, no money and no English, and despite the odds survived and thrived to attend university and make a home here in Hume. Abdi’s story is inspirational, uplifting and is a testament to his strength and resilience. Abdi’s autobiography Shining: The story of a lucky man is available in our catalogue in print and ebook format, as well as his story Yes I Can! adapted for children. Place a hold today! Abdi will also visit Sunbury Library to present an author talk on the evening of Thursday 20 June.
