Robyn Boyd Furniture Collection – 7.00pm
GRLCEvents
A Geelong Design Week Event
Focusing on Robin Boyd, Australia's famous mid-century architect, and his collection of furniture recently brought back to life in partnership with KFive + Kinnarps Australia.
Robin Boyd came to notice in the late 1940s for his promotion of inexpensive, functional, partially prefabricated homes incorporating modernist aesthetics. A prolific and influential writer, commentator, educator and public speaker, Boyd wrote nine books including Australia’s Home (1952) and The Australian Ugliness (1960), which brought him widespread recognition.
The Robin Boyd Foundation was established in 2005 and aims to deepen understanding of the benefits of design through design awareness, design literacy and design advocacy. The Foundation continues the work and spirit of Robin Boyd through an active, innovative and ongoing series of public learning programs developed to increase individual and community awareness, understanding and participation in design.
Join us for an event with Tony Lee, CEO of The Robin Boyd Foundation, to discuss the research and development of the Boyd Furniture Collection. Made in Melbourne, this is a collaboration between KFive Furniture and Boyd Foundation. The collection includes the Domain armchair, dining table, coffee table and Walsh Street Sofa. The sales of the pieces support the Robin Boyd Foundation, enabling them to continue to operate the education seminars and events at Walsh Street House.
Location:
Geelong Library and Heritage Centre (The Dome)
