Ross McMullin on Pompey Elliott At War: In His Own Words
Stonnington Libraries
The wartime letters and diaries of Pompey Elliott, Australia’s most famous fighting general, are exceptionally forthright. They are also remarkably illuminating about his volatile emotions. In his new book, Pompey Elliott At War: In His Own Words, award-winning historian and biographer Ross McMullin shapes Pompey’s wartime correspondence into a compelling first-person narrative. Dr McMullin will speak about the book and lead you to a new appreciation of Pompey’s character and his importance in the dramatic final year of World War I.
Ross McMullin has written extensively about the impact on Australia of its involvement in World War 1. His books include Pompey Elliott, which won awards for biography and literature, and Farewell Dear People: Biographies of Australia’s Lost Generation, which was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize for Australian History.
