3pm-4pm – Afternoon tea with opportunity for networking and informal discussions. Ideas will be shared for promoting VCE Extended Investigation, including creating Yr9/10 electives for research skills.

Oral Presentations – Defenders of research!

Learning Specialist & VCE Extended Investigation Teacher at CHES
This workshop will cover the key elements for teachers and mentors to support students in the planning, practice, and delivery of their oral presentations for research projects. Focus will be on the specific demands of the Unit 3 and 4 oral presentations for VCE Extended Investigation and the distinction between them, however the skills are applicable to a range of other subjects including the IB.
The main topics covered:
Presenting their research to a non-specialist audience – Dos and Don’ts
Defending their research – how to prepare for the unexpected!
Similarities and crucial differences between English, public speaking and other presentations
Practical strategies for how to facilitate the Unit 3 oral and mock orals to best prepare students for their final assessment.
