In the First World War, thousands of boys across Australia and New Zealand lied about their age, forged a parent’s signature and left to fight on the other side of the world. Some were as young as thirteen and soon found they could die as well as any man.

Journalist Paul Byrnes reveals the incredible and previously untold stories of 40 under-age soldiers in this homage to youthful bravery and poignant reminder of the horror of war.

Paul Byrnes is an award-winning film critic, journalist and film programmer – he has been a critic for Sydney Morning Herald for more than 25 years, has held many journalistic posts including PNG correspondent, state politics reporter and senior features writer. He was also the director of Sydney Film Festival for 10 years.
