Meg Mundell is a Melbourne-based novelist, journalist and social researcher. Her second novel, The Trespassers (UQP, August 2019), is a literary thriller that explores themes of migration, exile and belonging. Meg will be speaking about her new novel in conversation with writer, editor and PhD candidate Tom Doig.

Meg Mundell is a Melbourne-based novelist, journalist and social researcher. Her second novel, The Trespassers (UQP, August 2019), is a literary thriller that explores themes of migration, exile and belonging. Set on a migrant labour ship sailing from the UK to Australia in a disturbing near-future, the story focuses on three characters who are thrown together during this gruelling sea voyage. Meg’s first novel, Black Glass (2011), was shortlisted for two Aurealis Awards, the Barbara Jefferis Award, the Norma K. Hemming Award, and the CAL–Scribe Fiction Prize, and her fiction, essays and journalism have been published in Best Australian Stories, Meanjin, The Age, The Monthly, The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review, Cordite Poetry Review, Overland, Australian Book Review and elsewhere. She is also the editor of the forthcoming anthology We Are Here: Stories of Home, Place and Belonging (Affirm Press, October 2019), a collection of writings by people who have experienced homelessness.
Tom Doig is a writer, editor and PhD candidate. Tom was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand. He currently lives in Portarlington, two hours out of Melbourne. Tom’s non-fiction has been published in The Big Issue, Crikey, New Matilda, The Lifted Brow, Sleepers Almanac, Voiceworks magazine, The Death Mook, ACF’s Habitat magazine and a range of badly photocopied zines. He has also written five plays that have been performed nationally.
Tom has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Melbourne. He is currently a Journalism PhD candidate at Monash University, where he is doing research for a book about the lived experience of climate change in Australia.
