Online Seminar: The Frontiers of Internet Fiction

Kill Your Darlings

Event Date: 3 December 2022
Author / Presenters: Michael Kaplan

An interactive online seminar exploring voice, tone and style, for those interested in writing fiction about the internet.

Join KYD's Virtual Writer in Residence Michael Kaplan, from Iowa Writers' Workshop, for a free one-hour Zoom seminar exploring the frontiers of internet fiction. In this seminar, we will discuss the current canon of online literature and the possibilities for the genre going forward. By examining forum posts, YouTube videos, and more, we will unpack a variety of tones and styles in internet discourse, many of which the literary world has yet to explore. Above all else, this workshop seeks to inspire those interested in writing fiction of and about the internet.

This seminar is free and open to all.

TIME: 11am AEDT, Saturday 3 December

Michael Kaplan is an MFA candidate in fiction at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He has work published or forthcoming in Kill Your Darlings, Nature Magazine, the Michigan Quarterly Review Mixtape, the Beloit Fiction Journal, and the Florida Review Online, among others. He enjoys long walks in the woods and worrying about the future. He is KYD's Virtual Writer in Residence throughout November 2022.
