Book Launch: The Hidden Farmacopeia
Lauren Chalk
Enjoy a glass of wine as you explore the fantastic tales in verse from the Yiddish avant-garde by one of the great European symbolists. The Jewish Museum of Australia is delighted to host the launch of a new edition of author and philosopher Der Nister’s children’s book Mayselekh in ferzn (1919), originally illustrated by Marc Chagall. Nister’s iconic book has been translated by scholar Nathan Wolski and illustrated by multidisciplinary artist Anita Lester for contemporary audiences. The Hidden Farmacopeia is humorous, bizarre, sometimes grotesque, always profound and brimming with mystery. Nister’s tales are a masterpiece of Yiddish modernism for the young and young-at-heart. Tickets include a glass of wine upon entry, exclusive viewing of 10 prints from the new edition, a presentation by Nathan and Anita, a performance by The Bashevis Singers and entry to CHAGALL. Copies of The Hidden Farmacopeia will be available for purchase.
